Maybe you have a good answer. Here's a story i was thinking about.
There's two guys a Mexican and a Chinese. Theyre both friends, they live together. They decide to cook some chinese food. They go out and buy the ingredients. They prepare it together and eat it. Years later they both open thier own restaruants, both serving Chinese food, both using the same recipe they used that day to cook some Chinese food. The Mexican has Mexican workers serving. The Chinese has Chinese workers serving. A guy walks in to the Mexicans restaurant. He thinks to himself, this is being cooked by a bunch of Mexican's, this aint authentic Chinese food, it doesnt even taste like authentic Chinese food. So a day later he walks into the Chinese guys restaraunt. He thinks to himself, man this is some good authentic Chinese food. Same excact food, two different places. What is authentic Chinese food in this case?
also, why do people consider Taco Bell not authentic Mexican food?
I would like to try a stir fry recipe for 'Chinese Chicken Rice.' The recipe calls for cooking the chicken strips in 2 Tbsp of sunflower oil. Can I use peanut oil instead, since that is what I have on hand? If so, how will the peanut oil affect the cooking process and flavor?

hi i love chinese food and want to cook it at home for my family im looking for an authentic chinese recipe for chicken in plum sauce(i can never find the right plum sauce at the super market) and mongolian beef .also can some one advise me which brand soy sauce is the most flavorsome.thankyou
My family loves Chinese, but I have a problem getting enough sauce in the stir fry. I don't like to overdo the soy sauce. I'd like recipes for beef & broccoli that provides the sauce with it (like for over rice), and maybe a garlic or oyster sauce. I'm not a very detailed cook, so simple recipes and ideas are wonderful.
okay well i promised my friend for her birthday that i would cook her a chinese feast...trouble is that i am on a budget and dont really know much about chinese cooking.! Can you guys please give good recipes that are affordable...?

Why does the rice I eat at chinese restaurants or even Chinese-Canadian restaurants taste so good? What kind of oil do they cook it in? I make rice and it's ok, but it doesn't have that flavour in it. What are they using??
Chinese friend of mine sent me a bag of preserved mustard stems. I've done a lot of Chinese cooking, but have not run across this item. Looking for how to use it.

I was in Hongkong recently, and had a pretty fantastic duck.
The outside was crispy, like a peking / roast duck.
The gravy however, was cooked INSIDE the duck.
The waiter pulled a cork out of the duck, and the gravy poured out. The gravy was pretty bleeding fantastic.
Does anyone know the name of the duck?
Or have a recipe?
It's not peking duck, it sounded something like "gua lor ar".

I'm trying a new recipe for Pad Thai. Okay, this may sound like a dumb question, but the recipe calls for bean sprouts on the side. Am I supposed to cook the bean sprouts, or just serve them raw on the side?
Also, the recipe calls for tamarind pulp. I bought some (have never seen it before)...and they are dry crunchy looking pods. Do I just open them and crush the insides?
Thanks much for your help. We are trying to expand our culinary tastes!!!!
...needs as her basic minimum ... so she can please her family?
I always like to cook, but I think I am overly ambitious.... I would like to understand what would be a good selection of skills ....
please you tell me ... I want to know from people, not from websites ...I have tons of recipes from sites, but
none tells you which would be nice
to master first ....sort of like a teenager
learning her skills!
Thank you very much

coconut sauce many Chinese restuarants make and put over chicken. There are no mushrooms or anything though the sauce, totally smooth and whitish, slightly sweet. They say it's got coconut milk, sugar, and butter in it, but I know by the taste that there is a little ginger in it too. I tried putting this together so many times it's not funny, I can come "close" but it's still not it. Does anyone out there know this exact recipe? I'd very much appreciate it if you do because it's delicous over boneless-skinless chicken cuts.

I love the cheetah avatar, but it looks to me like this person is not FROM an Asian country at all. If he is from somewhere else, does he intend to capture people's pets and cook them up?
I LOVE Chinese food and so does my husband!
Problem is neither of us ever cook it the right way and it
ends up tasting nasty! Can you help me with some better
recipes that have that authentic restaurant taste??

Having spent some time in Thailand / Cambodia and enjoying cooking those cuisines, I'm now getting interested in cooking Chinese food. I buy ingredients from stores like Wing Yip in the UK. There seems to be quite an acceptance that ready-made commercial sauces are fine, but that feels weird to me - I'd never dream of making a Thai Tom Yum soup with a mix from a jar. Do Chinese people use these ready-made, jarred or tinned sauces? I've got a recipe for char siu which has a whole host of ingredients, and then says at the end "or use ready-made char siu sauce and marinate for an hour before roasting". To be honest, I'm not going to bother getting hold of Chinese malt syrup etc, if the ready-made stuff is just as good!
Once a month my friend and I get together and we cook. Sometimes we make italian, french, mexican. This time we want to make Chinese. I was on charge of find the recipes but I didn't find any (well I did, but they weren't really good). Anyone know any? Thanks!
I know that Monosodium glutamate is out of fashion for trendy cooks, but does it still have a role in Chinese cooking? For instance, I recently saw a recipe on the BBC food website for char siu which included it. I find my Chinese recipes VERY salty anyway, so is it always OK to omit it?
lol i say that but i try and do some cooking like noodles and chicken recipes i follow the plan but there seems to be a bland taste like something is missing ,(i know i wont find the chinese secrets)for there delicious recipes but wat am i doing wrong?

My Dad is on a low salt/sodium, no MSG diet, lately he has beein craving Chinese food. I would like to cook some for him as low salt/sodium food seems to not be an option at most chinese restaurants. Does anyone have ideas/recipes for Chinese food which uses little or no salt?
