I have been trying to cook cuban style black beans with two different recipes that I found online and it's just not coming out like its supposed to. For one, the liquid is not thick and black. Instead, it looks watered down. Also, the beans themselves are supposed to be soft, and these that I cooked just never seemed to be soft enough plus they tasted almost powdery inside. I have been using a large pot, while my family uses a pressure cooker back home to make them. Could this be the difference or is it something else that I may be doing wrong? Oh, and I don't ask my family for their recipe they use because they don't use measurements and I'm a beginner so I require more information than "a little of this and little of that." Any information would be highly appreciated! Thank you!
Actually I did soak them overnight (sorry I forgot to mention that) and cooked the beans for as long as the recipe said and even still it didn't come out the way I wanted it to.
For Spanish, I am suppose to make a menu that is full of unique recipes for Cuban food. So far, I have gotten a lot of recipes for appetizers, drinks, desserts, soup of the day, special of the day, and the plate special. But I am having trouble finding recipes for the meat, seafood, and vegetable section! If you could give me some recipes or a link to a good website with a lot of recipes, I would REALLY appreciate it! Also, I am suppose to make ONE dish out of my menu! I am not a very good cook though! Can you think of any simple recipes that I could make? Thanks!!
I have already tried www.tasteofcuba.com, and although it is a great website and has really helped me, it has no recipes for the meat, seafood, or vegetable section. Thanks you guys!
I will be checking for a best answer (I promise I won't forget) and the most helpful answer will get 10 points!! Thanks!
I have been looking for a good carnitas recipe and cannot find one. Local restaraunt here cooks the best I have ever had and I am not sure what type of pork cut and how long to cook and with what. I have tried to make it but it tastes nothing like what I had locally. I believe it is more of the cuban version that is crispy on the outside and just falls apart on the inside... just great stuff. Any help is greatly appreciated!
My friend went to a Cuban thanksgiving dinner, she had based her turkey in like 4 juices, mango, orange, lemon & prunce juice, then stuffed the turkey with peeled oranges and lemons, she cooked it in a low over for 24 hours basting with fruit juices all the time, does anyone have the exact recipe that would be similar to this, she didn't know all ingredients. I would appreciate it. Thank you Marilyn
I was recently in Belize and went to the Running W restaurant. There I was served a really tasty steak dish. The steak was cut into strips and cooked with onions and spices. It was somewhat reminiscent of Cuban-style Picadillo, only I think it was a little sweeter, but it did not have raisins. Can anyone give me a name or recipe for this dish? Please!!!
Cook good?? And would you not want to marry someone who does not cook good?
Me and my guy had an arguement over my cooking last week...
and he's cuban so he wants me to cook his food TOO... so.. this week i tried stepping it up I made chicken parmesan for the first time (using a recipe from yahoo food), and Shrimp Etoufe, and today I'm going to make HIS food.. black beans and rice with a steak and a salad, no tostones. God I hate to cook I have to fake it till I make it.
He does cook sometimes. And sometimes we help each other. We help each other on Chicken Fajitas... and when he cooks himself, he makes spaguetti.
Help, I do NOT know how to cook... I mean I try!! I cook for my boyfrined and he hates it. (I don't like my own cooking either). I make chicken, rice, salad, steak... i really don't like my chicken though. I just want a good recipe for tonight that is DELICIOUS, has flavor in it, something different, that will make him happy. What should I cook? And I'm not a chef, so can you please tell me what temp to cook and for how long please, and also what to cook it in.
I don't want chicken tonight, I already had some for last night.
I would like to try a steak, or Pasta sounds good, or maybe fish, or shrimp. It can be anything jsut as long as its EASY to prepare and cook, and comes out good. My boyfriend is Cuban, if that helps any. I am not experienced at cooking dont expect me to go out and buy wine to pour in my recipe please thanks.

I never bothered learning the recipes my dad new how to cook and now i would do almost anything for some good mojo and yuka with some black beans and rice. Please send me any Cuban recipes. Please make sure they are cuban recipes to not mexican even though they are both spainish the food is really different.
I had this steak called
Bistek De Cubanno
It was a thin steack I think it was pan fried or something and it isn't carne asada.
It was a one piece of steak except very thin. They put lime or something with it.
I had it at Havana Cafe in Arizona
It was called bistek de Cubanno.
I looked some stuff up and It kinda looked like Escalope.
It sorta looked like it was fried.
It had a coating on it that made it look like it had skin like fried chicken. It had a breading of some sort.
Thanks to someone who can give me the recipe.
