Dutch Cooking Recipes Question And Answer

Recipe help!?

I'm going to make a pot roast recipe and it calls for red wine. I am not old enough to purchase red wine. I would like to know is there a subsitute for red wine that i used in this recipe? Here is the recipe its by "How to boil water" Tyler Florence show on the food network channel: http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,1977,FOOD_9936_31861,00.html Another question: Why is the "dutch oven" called that? Is it better to use? Because I have been seeing a lot of recipes use a dutch oven. I even saw this show a year or so ago ,where this man from one of the food network's show would cook his food outside like he was camping. One of the recipes was some type of chocolate cake he cooked in a "dutch oven" over a camp fire. I wish I could find his show again. It was so cool. He cooked some of everything on that camp fire! Thank you.

You can use red grape juice, cranberry juice, chicken broth, beef broth, vegetable broth, clam juice, fruit juices, flavored vinegar. (Substitute equal amount of liquid.) A Dutch oven is a large, heavy casserole pan, most often made of enamel-covered cast iron. It has a tight fitting lid that holds in moisture, so it is primarily used for braising and stewing tough meats and vegetables. Often called for in the making of a stew or the cooking of a roast, a Dutch oven can be used to brown the meat on the stovetop before other ingredients are added. Then the lid is added and the dish is generally finished in the oven. Dutch oven is of Pennsylvania Dutch heritage, dating from the 1700s.
I would use beef broth also Worcestershire sauce. Make sure you poke holes through the roast with a fork then season add alot of onions, green onions, and bell peppers. You can also at about 2tp of brown sugar GOD BLESS
after reading cister's response there is no need to add...she is putting you on the correct path.
You can substitute red cooking wine (and yes, you can buy it at the grocery store). A dutch oven is basically a heavy metal pot/kettle with a tight fitting lid. It works better than aluminum because is conducts and holds the heat better. And you can google "dutch oven chocolate cake". There area lot of different recipes.
