I'm guessing it has to do with SPOON. Cuiller is a spoon.
Hi from France ♫ The word '' cuil '' = cuillère, it means : a spoon !! There are too many sort of spoons for us too : teaspoon, desertspoon, soup spoon... Be careful for your recipe so, precise what is wrote before the word '' cuil ''... Cuillère à café = teaspoon, cuillère à soupe = soup spoon, usually '' cuillère à dessert is same thing that '' teaspoon''... I hope that helps you ... Have a nice day, Cat.
That would be a hard one to find in a dictionary, 'cuil' is a shorthand abbreviation for 'cuillère' or 'spoon' and for 'cuillerée' or 'spoonful'. Context should show you which is meant. 'cuillère à café' = coffee spoon = tsp 'cuillère à thé' = teaspoon = tsp 'cuillère à soupe' = soup spoon = tbs 'une cuillerée [no qualifier]' (of cream, pesto or another gloopy substance) = a dollop Hope this helps
