Hi there,
What you describe is called an apple cobbler.
Here are several recipes to choose from:
http://www.cooks.com/rec/search?q=apple+cobbler
this is not really a deep dish apple....I made this over thanksgiving and it turned out really well.....to make it deep dish you could probably double the ingredients except for the apples.....you put it in a 13 x 9 pan...
2 eggs
1 cup sugar
1 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 cups flour
6 to 8 tart apples, depending on size of apple
Sugar
Cinnamon
Butter
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Peel and chop apples and set aside. Beat eggs in large bowl. Add sugar and milk and beat again. Mix salt, baking powder, and flour and add to egg mixture. Beat all together. Pour into two 9-inch greased cake pans or one 9-by-13 inch pan. Cover with apples. Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon and dot with butter. Bake about 30 minutes.
I tried doing a search for deep dish apple cakes but all i came up with were pies and some of them included raisins...
It does sound somewhat like it could be an apple crisp. Which in that case: in a 9x13 pan spread out 2 or 3 cans of apple pie filling. Top with brown sugar/granola/butter mixture. Bake 30-40 min 350.
Or if it's more of a pie you want. I personally would try taking the premade pie crusts (2 to a box). Take a pie shell so that it fits over or right at the edges of the 9x13 pan. Place the second one beside it the same way...pressing the edges of the two together. Top with pie filling. Top this with 2 more pie shells. And bake :)
