Russian Cooking Recipes Question And Answer
breastmilk recipes?
OK... this is mostly for the experienced breastfeeding moms out there.
Have you ever used any of the breastmilk recipes online?
Like the ones for use in regular kitchen cooking, for the whole family, not just to mix baby's oatmeal with. I saw one for alfredo sauce, one to make your own cottage cheese, one funny one was for a cocktail - a white Russian!!! Then there are the soaps and stuff too.
please .... all the immature and breastfeeding ignorant people, keep your comments to yourself... I'm asking a serious question here! I don't care if you think it's gross or wierd or whatever.
If you have used breastmilk for something other than feeding your baby/toddler/preschooler or the usual ear infection, pink eye, diaper rash cure - please share your experience.
my daughter has weaned long ago at 18 months... but I was poking around when a friend was talking about making soap for her older child w/ a bad rash they can't figure out. unfortunately, my husband would have a fit... he's a normal man despite his hardcore breastfeeding activist wife. my daughter is almost 5 and says "eww, milky boob milk is for babies" when I joke about putting some of the frozen stuff I have for the boy I babysit in a sippy for her.
I was more curious to see if any of the food items really come out that way... if an alfredo sauce really came out creamy and didn't taste too sweet, or if the cottage cheese did come out really resembling cottage cheese. I'd seen these recipes before, but even while I was lactating, I didn't feel like pumping more than I needed for my regular freezer stash just to experiment w/ a recipe that only I would eat! - plus, I just don't like the texture of cottage cheese anyway - I think it's gross from any mammal!!!
dolfin426...... I never found one for ice cream in a tiny batch either... but I did use just a little fresh milk and some fruit, pureed it and put it in the freezer and kept checking on it, scraping the ice up - was sort of a sorbet... I also used frozen milk in the blender w/ fresh fruit and a little YoBaby and made smoothies in the summer time (that was when she was just over a year, and I still had my freezer stash - was looking to get rid of it before it spoiled!!! she loved those smoothies!)
um... why did yahoo put some * where i tried to write the word "b,a,t,c,h"... as in a tiny b@+ch of ice cream... did they think I meant the word for female dog? stupid.
hey look at that... I guess someone read my update... changed the asterisks back to the real word BATCH... lol

You are right, the formula-feeding brigade will be all over this. The only thing I used expressed breastmilk for was in my daughter's cereal and oatmeal. It tastes sooo much better than formula or water mixed with it.
I used it for coffee because we was out of milk.
I havent had the opportunity (yet) but had a dear friend who made cheese for everyone, and lotions and soaps for rashes, and general washing of the babe. Her 3 kids came in just under 4 years, and she has had so much milk she couldn't stand to waste it.
Nutrition, antibodies, wonderful things we make, huh :)
No, I have never heard of that before.I do breastfeed and have before this baby, but still have never heard anything like that.I guess i your family can use it and doesnt mind then ...go for it.
I haven't ever used it for my family recipes because my fiance wont appreciate it and I wouldnt be able to pump enough. I have a good pump but I dont let down when pumping. Guess I dont do it enough.
But I did use it in my daughters nose when she had a stuffed nose. I would squirt it in there to help clear her out instead of using saline when she had a cold. It worked great.
No I haven't but I do know a mom that sells mother's milk soap *lol. (BTW you can use freezer burned milk in soap)
I could use a white Russian though... maybe after my nap.
It works great to clean eyes, clears up yeast diaper rashes, its good on the cord stump, cleans out belly button gunk, loosens stuck on poop, good on cuts (like when you slip cutting baby's nails) etc.
But the #1 "alternative" use. Disciplining hubby. Hahaha he isn't as bad as he used to be but he used to hate getting breastmilk on him and I can shoot about 5 feet.
Hmm I do have some breastmilk in my fridge that should probably be used or tossed today.... maybe I'll test out the sourdough recipe.
(PS can you e-mail me your links so I can add 'em to my collection, thanks. I definitly don't have the one for the white russian... though I do know how to make one w/ cow's milk)

Dear ♥Curly♥,
But feeding milk from a thousand cow's you never met to your family is normal?
Riiiiiight.
absolutely disgusting
despicable
horrendous
edit: i have broken my record of 18!!!
I posted this question a few weeks ago and it was so much fun; I'm glad you are asking it! I've been using it as ChapStick ever since and it's worked wonderfully.
My lips have stopped cracking and bleeding, and I haven't had to hunt down my chapstick ever since. Just squirt, apply, repeat as needed.
I plan on breastfeeding exclusively but I still think it's a bit demented to feed your whole family breastmilk.
edit: Do your husbands know you are putting breastmilk in their food? Most likely most men if they knew there was breastmilk in something their reaction would be "eww gross" so feeding it to them is demented in my opinion. It's not being immature it's being real.
and to mystic- you got a point. I don't really have a problem with it except for the fact I know my family would if they knew I put breastmilk in their food, that's just the way it is.
We've been nursing for 15 months and we've only ever used it the suggestions you listed at the end of the question....
I'll check out the website though..

This whole concept used to really gross me out, but as others have said...apparently I've matured a bit...
I used to love a cold glass of milk with cookies or whatever...but since nursing...cows milk REALLY grosses me out....funny.
I think human milk is a heck of a lot better than milk squeezed from a bunch of random cows or goats, whose health condition is unknown...I never thought about it until I began nursing my son...
I don't know how well the idea of brestmilk alfredo would go over with the rest of the family...but the soap sounds very very interesting.
Funny! I have not, but I was watching the show America's Next Top Model and there was a woman who had a baby at home, so she was pumping to keep her supply up. They asked if she FedEx'd the milk to her baby, and she said no, she was drinking it!
An older pharmacist( the older population called him drugist) that worked part-time at my old job that was highly respected in the community mentioned this one time...
I can't remember how it was made, but it was a salve that included breast milk that you can make at home for prickly heat, and rash....I def. remember the breast milk part because I was young (17) and it was working at a drug store and I remember going "EW! that is gross!" Yeah, I have matured a little.
But I DO remember his saying this...and telling a woman how to make it via phone.
His name was Jim and he has since died...but ALL the little old ladies and men were so respectful of him so he must have known something. He was a cool guy and was like 80 or so...still working up till he died...would wear these bright red polyester pants all the time.

you have given me a project ;) my friend is a Rph...I am calling....
ok, SARNA brand lotion, bm, and petroleum jelly is all she can remember...she was like "what are you doing today...not too much, eh?" I guess it was kind of a random question to ask.

I guess I count as the "formula feeder brigade" but I think it is awesome. I am reading online now...extra breast milk can be used as plant fertilizer...just pour in pot? anyone heard of that?
you "ew, gross" people give us formula feeders a bad name, and lack maturity. grow some *&^#$ and shut it.
I am going on no sleep...I am feeling fiesty...not like me ;)
the only hting ive used my breastmilk for is to feed my son.
too weird to use it in everyday food. it taste like sugar water, so dontk now how it could possibly taste good in food.
i pump at work and store bags in 5oz portions in the freezer in the breakroom, way in the back of the freezer. one day, i was leaving work and i went to collect my milk and it was GONE. somebody had swiped it! i always wondered what it might be used for; i had no idea people use it in these ways...kinda creepy when it's an anonymous co worker though..............
Funny I was just looking this up last week...I was trying to find one for ice cream because my daughter is forever trying to get her hands in my bowl. Everything I found called for way more milk then I could ever pump though.
I can't imagine the Alfredo recipe because of the sweetness factor but the white Russian sounds interesting!
I'm also guilty of the entertainment factor. It never fails to crack me up when I squirt the dog from across the room.
I haven't, but I'm willing to try the butter!!
I hate pumping though, somebody please let me know if the butter is any good before I waste some milk lol.
Great question!
Edit-
Some people... so breastmilk is gross but cow's milk is fine? Have you ever seen the cow's titties???
Ah...
Awesome question!!
Now I have not *yet* done this, but I am planning to try cultivating some kefir babies in mama's milk. I should be getting them in a few days, however I won't be having any milk until about 9 weeks from now ;) I'll let you know how it goes!!
(Kefir = growing probiotic used to culture milk or sugar water into an elixir of health!! Great for balancing internal flora & fauna)
This is the best free cooking E-book I've found, I'm sure you can find what you're looking for in it.
